WHAT IS CDFI CERTIFICATION?
Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Certification is a designation given by the CDFI Fund to specialized organizations that provide financial services in low-income communities and to people who lack access to financing.
WHAT ORGANIZATIONS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR CERTIFICATION?
Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Certification is a designation given by the CDFI Fund to specialized organizations that provide financial services in low-income communities and to people who lack access to financing, including banks, depository institution holding companies, credit unions, loan funds and venture capital funds.
WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION?
To apply for CDFI Certification, your organization must meet each of the following criteria:
Be a legal entity at the time of Certification application;
Have a primary mission of promoting community development;
Be a financing entity;
Primarily serve one or more target markets;
Provide development services in conjunction with your financing activities;
Maintain accountability to your defined target market; and
Be a non-government entity and not under the control of any government entity (Tribal governments excluded).
